Subscriber Trunk Dialing (STD) is used to allow the customer to dial a trunk calls for a long distance outside a particular boundary without operator assistance.

 Subscriber Trunk Dialing (STD) this term is used in UK, India, Australia, Republic of Ireland and South East Asia. In USA,  Subscriber Trunk Dialing (STD) is called Direct Distance Dialing.


Subscriber Trunk Dialing (STD) system was started in the year 1958 and completed by 1979. Subscriber Trunk Dialing (STD) system specifies  Subscriber Trunk Dialing (STD) codes for each area, or called area codes. 

 Area codes should be dialed by the customer before the phone number to call someone.
